Never Sanded, Never Sealed — and It Showed
This walkway runs from the house down the slope to the dock, which means it spends its life damp, shaded in stretches, and walked on every time anyone heads to the water. Since the day it was installed it had never been sanded or sealed. Mold and algae had darkened the pavers to the point that the original color was hard to find, and the joints told the real story: the sand was long gone, replaced by packed dirt and moss growing in its place. That is the part most homeowners do not see. Dirt in a joint is not sand — it holds water, it grows things, and it does nothing to lock the pavers against each other.

How We Did It
Deep Clean the Surface
We deep cleaned the full length of the walkway and the steps, pulling off the mold and algae that had built up over the years and bringing the pavers back to their own color.
Clear Out Every Joint
Dirt and moss came out of the joints completely. This is the step that gets skipped, and skipping it is why sand fails: new sand laid over packed dirt and live moss has nothing to lock into, and whatever is growing down there keeps growing.
Install New Joint Sand
We installed new joint sand in fieldstone color, worked down into the full depth of every joint so the pavers lock against each other again instead of sitting on dirt.
Seal the Next Day
We came back the following day and applied one coat of Trident Cyclone, a water-based acrylic joint-stabilizing sealer. Waiting a day means the sand is dry all the way down before anything goes over it. It goes on milky and dries clear, hardening the joint sand and protecting the surface while leaving a natural matte finish.
